Road-side food stalls or street food

These photographs are of road-side food vendors or street food on the streets of India. The first one is of a small eatery on the pavement. It provides different food items ranging from snacks like omelettes and bhujia to tea and coffee. When it's hot it's usually hygienic as it's fried.

This image was caught from a speeding car and there is some motion blur evident in the photo. It shows a group of youngsters snacking on bhel and other snacks at a road-side food stall in Pune. It is not always healthy to eat street food. If you have to eat on the streets, best to eat something cooked or fried in front of you.

Eating bhutta or roasted corn cobs from the road side stalls is very common in India. Coal is used to roast the corn. These are a group of young girls enjoying this tasty snack. The bhutta is sprinkled with salk and chilli or chat powder to make it tasty. It's usually clean and hygienic to eat like this.

Sliced fruits which are left uncovered are often sold by vendors. If flies and other insects get on it before you do (not to mention the dirt and dust!) then there is a likelihood of a stomach infection.

This is a juice stall on the pavements of Mumbai. The mixie or food processor filled with fruit can be seen in the background of his trolley or cart. You can see how the juice vendor is washing the utensils. It is unlikely that he cleans his equipment properly. However patron don't seem to care! Even though this is a sure way to get jaundice or gastroenteritis!

unhygienic fruit juice on the streets

This man selling lemon juice on the pavement near Fort or Fountain has a cleaner place. However, as there is no running water it is unlikely that proper hygiene is being maintained. A big block of ice is on the left of his cart. A food stall selling wada pav is in the background. (This photo was shot two years ago)

Life guard viewing point on Juhu beach

This is a wooden structure put up where life guards can sit and keep an eye on the swimmers. It was incomplete when I took the picture. The system of lifeguards on public beaches is fairly new in Mumbai, perhaps just a few years old. In the rest of India it would be pretty novel as life has little value here.

Small colorful flowers for backgrounds

These pictures can be used as backgrounds for blogs and websites. They can also be used for designs and borders and greeting cards. The uses are multiple, and I have large high resolution pictures of these with me in case anyone requires them.
These plants appear to be related to the cactus family as the leaves and stems are thick and absorbent.

Man and Bullock cultivating field

These are photographs of a plough and bullock tilling a field in rural India. The bullock is ploughing the field. The farmer stands on a wooden plough and his weight manages to dig up the soft mud. The crop in the background appears to be sugarcane. In the background is a river and some hills.

Forbidden City in Beijing, China

These are pictures of the famous tourist attraction in Beijing in China - The Forbidden City, so-called because  "no-one could enter or leave the palace without the emperor's permission". It was  Chinese Imperial Palace for 500 years, from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty and also the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government.Today it contains the Palace Museum.
It is a World Heritage Site. The style of Architecture is typically Chinese, which is unique to the country and the places it influenced. It is centuries old, as old as the Chinese civilization.

This photograph is the main entrance of this large museum. Walking through takes hours, minimum half a day.
main entrance to Forbidden City

The architectural style at the Forbidden City is distinctive. Yellow roof tiles were used as yellow was the Imperial color. Red was used extensively for wooden columns of the buildings, as well as the walls.

buildings inside Forbidden City

Throngs of tourists inside the Forbidden City. An unique aspect of the structures inside the Forbidden City is how well they are maintained. All are freshly painted and preserved very well. They looked brand new! This takes away from the feeling that these buildings are hundreds of years old. What is admirable is that the place is spotlessly clean and very well organised.

Cowherds in Rural India

These are photographs of people herding cattle in rural India. The first few photos are shot in rural Maharashtra.
In the first photo there is a rural woman in a green sari and red blouse herding two buffaloes on a country road near her village. The photo was shot through a windscreen.

On this country road two young boys in brightly coloured clothes are walking their cows. The younger generation in India, whether rural or urban, has taken to wearing western clothes, that too in bright colors. The traditional colour for male attire in India is white.

A pretty picture of the Indian country-side. Cowherds herding the cows.

This beautiful photograph shows the wide country landscape, the rural Indian country-side, as a backdrop to this cattle herder. The photo was taken on the outskirts of Nasik, Maharashtra.  As it was shot on a cell phone, the clarity is not as good as that of the other pictures. The man is herding cows as well as goats towards the river on a dirt track.

A man walking with his two cow and bull near his sugarcane field. The sky is blue, the field is greed and the cattle is white. The different colours make a pretty picture.
