Footprints in the sand

Just some footprints in the wet sand on the beach. Walking barefoot feels good in the sand. This person has well defined arches on the feet.

A poor foreigner in Goa

These are photographs of a white man who looks like a destitute on a Goa beach. He is surrounded by stray dogs and what looks to be garbage and is wearing a dirty vest and cotton shorts. He is possibly a Russian (because Goa is full of Russians). It was an odd sight to see a white person who appears to be a tramp! He looks well-fed, but one wonders why he is rags and hanging out with stray dogs on a Goa beach.

A closer look at the man. It makes one wonder whether he is living on the beach.

Sand backgrounds for blogs and designers

These are close-up pictures taken on a beach and they can be used as backgrounds for different purposes. Larger versions are available with me. Closer up the grains of sand look like miniature pebbles. Each of the sand grains in the photograph below are very very tiny and from the height of a person each grain is not visible. This photo was taken barely a few inches from the ground.

This is a slightly rough sand and from your height the separate grains of sand will be visible although not clearly. This photograph is also a close-up and you can see the different colours clearly in this one. The sand pebbles are transluscent, and the colors range from black and different shades of gray to different shades of brown to white and even yellow.

This is another version of the same sandy beach.

A part of the beach where the finer grains and larger pebbles mix to form a kaleidoscopic of stony colors. Small pieces of broken shells also form a part of the sand.

Rocky Dadar Beach

It is difficult for me to imaagine now that this was the very beach I played on as a child. It had a vast expanse of smooth brown sand and we used to sit here for hours making sand castles and playing on the beach. My aunt has a house on the beach front, still has. But this is what Dadar beach looks like now. Reclamation in South Mumbai is said to have caused this sad situation. Sad for the residents of this stretch as their view and space is gone. Long walks, and gazing in silence at the sunset are relic past-times. Citizens pay the price for the greed of commercial interests.

Life guard viewing point on Juhu beach

This is a wooden structure put up where life guards can sit and keep an eye on the swimmers. It was incomplete when I took the picture. The system of lifeguards on public beaches is fairly new in Mumbai, perhaps just a few years old. In the rest of India it would be pretty novel as life has little value here.

Goa beach shacks

Here are some photos of beach shacks on Goa beaches. Most of these are restaurants but some shacks can be rented out, and some are small hotels.

Some of these shacks are right on the water's edge. Quite shabby some of them but people throng here. Beer flows freely. This one has a view of an abandoned ship!

This is a long shot of some shacks on the beach. Often they are quite badly maintained.

Beach Scenes for backgrounds

Here are some beautiful beach photographs which can be used for backgrounds either for desktops or blogs.
This is a beach near Puducherry. The slim palm trees are clustered on the beach, providing shade for people to sit and relax.

This is a shot of the setting reflected in the sea water. The golden sands and blue tipped waves can be seen in the foreground.

This photographs shows a Goa beach. The photo comprises of various elements like the blue sky with the white dot of a boat on the horizon, an even deeper blue sea with gentle white waves lapping on to the brown sands of the beach. The different colours in the photograph - the blues, the white and the browns - create an interesting effect.

Beach Scenes of different beaches

These are beach scenes from Goa and Puducherry, and can be used as backgrounds. All these beaches are unique in their own way, with different colours of sand.

This photograph is of a Goa beach with golden brown sands and light blue sea. The sky is cloudy. The background comprises of a small hill with vegetation.

This picture is another Goa beach, shot near the Taj Holiday village. In the foreground are the golden sands and in the background an abandoned ship. The sands are ingrained with footprints of people. A small dingy can be seen to the left of the image.

These silver white sands belong to a beach in Puducherry. The blue sky is the background. A beautiful shot showing the wide expanse of the soft sand. In the background tiny figures of people can be seen walking on the beach.

This is more like a beach road with rocks between it and the sea. Tourists use it to stroll around and it's a place where people congregate in the evenings. It is located in the city of Pondicherry.

This one is called Ruby beach on the outskirts of Puducherry. The photograph is taken from the parking lot and the sands are not clearly visible.

Nature headers of beach scenes

Here are a few photographs of beach scenes for use on your blog. The first three are shot in Goa and are stitched together to give a panoramic effect. The last is taken near Pondycherry and is a single photograph, cropped. There are no fixed sizes as headers differ from blog to blog, theme to theme.

The first picture, made out of three photos, has several elements. There is the sea, the sky and the beach ofcourse. There is also an abandoned ship in the foreground and some tiny figures of people on the beach and in the water.

The second picture is of the golden sands with tiny figures of people, the ship far in the background and the sea with boats. This picture is a combination of three photographs.

The next photo is a combination of five photographs and gives a panoramic view of the ocean and the beach. A heavy file.

This last photograph is amongst my favourites. It was shot at Ruby beach. The red sandy beach, the blue sky and the tiny thatched umbrellas for tourists contrasted nicely with the orange-red bus.  This is a single photograph, cropped to the size given below.

Daman Beach Scenes - Black Sands

These are photographs of the beaches at Daman, in Western India. Daman's beaches are not the usual sandy beaches. Instead, they are rocky and the sands tend to be black. People tend to like the scenery though and sit on the rocks watching the sea. In any case Indians are not very fond of sun-bathing which is what most people do on soft brown sands.

The photograph below is a sunset scene at a Daman beach. The black sands can be quite picturesque.
