Mount Batur Volcano in Bali

Beautiful Mount Batur can be seen from a distance and the view is quite breathtaking. It is still an active volcano near Mount Agung, in Bali, Indonesia. The south east side of the larger caldera has a caldera lake. The inner 7.5-kilometer-wide caldera is approximately 25,000 years old. It is possible to take a special trip to climb the mountain. Mining is going on near the bottom of Mount Batur, to collect the volcanic debris and rock for building purposes.

A closer look at the Batur volcano in Bali.

Seen from the far distance the mountain of Batur looks very imposing.

Faces and expressions from Bali

These are some faces from Bali, Indonesia - the young and the old.

A young woman on the streets of Bali. Caps and head coverings here are a way of life, not for religious reasons(Bali has a mostly Hindu population) but to protect themselves from the harsh sun.  Both men and women were caps of some sort, or scarves. Women wear head coverings for ceremonious reasons also.

Singapore National Museum

This is the Singapore National Museum. Quite impressive from the outside. A spanking white building and neat lawns.

Singapore National Museum

The architecture of this museum is very attractive. As soon you enter there is a very high ceiling and a huge dome.

Inside the Singapore National Museum

To the right there are art galleries, and there are some upstairs too. To the left are some restaurants.

Art Gallery

Go on ahead and you come to a seemingly outdoor area but it is covered completely from the top although it lets the sunlight in. There are art exhibitions and galleries to the right and an escalator which leads to the top where the main attraction - a visual display of the history and culture of Singapore is shown.

To the left of this open (yet covered) courtyard area there is a popular restaurant which serves organic and natural food. Fruit juices are not freqently found in Singapore cafes, but here we had a fresh orange juice for just 5 Singapore dollars. Here the price of an average wholesome meal ranges from 7 - 12 Singapore dollars and a few snacks/salads/drinks for half the price. There are other Food For Thought restaurants in Singapore.

To the right of the image you can get a glimpse of a pathway to the main auditorium where the display of Singapore's history is shown.

Cambodian Sticky Rice street food

Sticky Rice is a popular snack found on the roads in Cambodia. Healthy and tasty, it costs only about 1500 Riels, which amounts to less than half a US dollar. A small amount of raw rice mixed with condiments like a few black beans, sugar and coconut with a little salt is stuffed into a bamboo container as shown below. Then it is sealed with a few thick strands of soft bamboo, before being cooked on a slow fire.

The seal is then removed and the sides of the bamboo is peeled slowly, revealing the sticky and very tasty, smoky rice.
