Silhouettes of a volcano

These are silhouetted scenes of a volcano in Bali, Indonesia, called Mount Batur. They are long shots,  based on photos taken from a distance, with the dark volcano contrasted against a white cloudy sky.

Mount Batur Volcano in Bali

Beautiful Mount Batur can be seen from a distance and the view is quite breathtaking. It is still an active volcano near Mount Agung, in Bali, Indonesia. The south east side of the larger caldera has a caldera lake. The inner 7.5-kilometer-wide caldera is approximately 25,000 years old. It is possible to take a special trip to climb the mountain. Mining is going on near the bottom of Mount Batur, to collect the volcanic debris and rock for building purposes.

Venna Lake in Mahabaleshwar

Periyar National Park in Thekkady Kerala

Periyar National Park in Thekkady is Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala, Southern India. It is an elephant and tiger reserve. In the hills of Cardamom and Pandalam of the south side of the Western Ghats, this area lies near the Tamil Nadu border. It is a very scenic place as the photographs show. Boating is available, and there is a resort within the park premises.

Bangalore city landscape

These are panoramic views of the city of Bangalore or Bangaluru as it is now known. These photographs are taken from the terrace of a hotel in the Ulsoor area. you can see some tall buildings on the horizon but most of the buildings in this photograph are of small bungalows which Bangalore is famous for.

Halasuru or Ulsoor Lake in Bangalore

Ulsoor Lake is now known as Halasuru lake. It is in the heart of the city, near MG road and is one of Bangalore's bigger lakes. As can be seen from these bird's eye view photographs the lake is surrounded by urban structures. A pretty lake in the midst of buildings.

View from Ajanta - scenery of rocks, caves and hills

A beautiful scene which can make a good header for a blog of a view from the Ajanta rock cave temples. The Ajanta caves are hewn out of rock which is in the shape of a horse-shoe. This photograph is taken from the inner curve of the horse-shoe (shaped like a "C") and you can see the rock caves on both sides, curving around like the arms of a C. There is lush green vegetation, rocks, and a small stream.

Mumbai Ahmedabad Highway scenes

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway is part of National Highway No. 8 in India. It is part of the Golden Quadrilateral project and the highway is wide and well-made road. However it is accident-prone. 

These are some shots of the scenic road and the pretty country-side along the way from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.

Lake Lucerne Photos

Lake Lucerne is in the city of Lucerne, in central Switzerland. You can go around the lake by road, although the road is narrow at times, and through tunnels. This lake is used frequently by steamers which go from ply between the different towns on the lake. It is a popular tourist destination.

Large images of open fields for headers

These are panoramic views farms and fields in India. In the first image (combination of of three photographs) you can see a wide open field with a small tree and some hills in the distance. The field has just been cultivated and made ready for a new crop. The right of the image you can see the white bright light from the rays of the setting sun.

This is a view of an open field. In the distance you can see a sugarcane crop and in the background is a blue sky and hills. This panoramic view is a combination of two photographs.

Nature headers - hilly landscape and a country road

Here are two panoramic views of the Indian country-side. Each picture is a combination of several photographs. They are heavy files, high resolution pictures.

The first photograph is taken looking down from a hill-side onto the landscape below.  At the bottom of the hill you can see a long winding road and beyond that some farmland.

This is one of my favourite photographs. It is a long lonely country road amidst sparse vegetation and thin and bare trees growing by the side of the road. The grass is yellowing, typical of a Maharashtrian summer.

Illustrated Headers

Here are some illustrations which can be used for headers. They are of sunsets and mountains and trees and valleys. The original photographs (which are by me) have been altered in photoshop to give the illustrated effect.


The image of the rocky mountains below has been turned into a painting with pastel shades. It would be very difficult to actually make a painting using these colours and the shades. In the original photograph the mountains look black and white with some shades of pink and blue in the sky.

This is the same image, with another effect. For those who love bright colours.

This is an image is of sunrise on the Nile, a river in Egypt. The ripples in the water look almost as they are on fire.

The next two are illustrations from photographs of sunsets taken on the outskirts of Mumbai.

The image below is an illustration of mountains and a valley. The original photo was shot in Matheran. The picture looks almost like a photograph, until you zoom in.

This last image is a simple illustration of a field and rolling hills. The tree in the foreground is fallling like a canopy over the green fields. This image too can be easily mistaken for a photo.

Nature scenes of hills, valleys and trees

Here are some breathtaking panoramic views from Matheran, a hill station in Maharashtra, India. They are images stitched from 2-3 photos and show deep valleys, rolling hills, trees and bushes.

In the first image there is a tree in the foreground (to the right of the picture), and a range of hills stretching far out into the distance.

The second image shows some bushes in the foreground and the deep valley and hills in the background. It is the same scene from another angle, without the tree.

In this image the tree is to the left of the panoramic scene. The red mud of Matheran in the foreground makes a nice contrast to the green of the valley and the blue of the hills beyond.

The photograph below shows just the hills of Matheran.

The hillocks seen in this image were shot on the way to Matheran. They make an interesting scene, showing the plains beyond. The foreground is a bunch of trees and bushes.

This last photograph below is one of my favorites. The silhouetted mountain range against a setting sun adds an element of character, mystery and intrigue to the mountains. The contrast between two mountain ranges is clearly visible, the one in the foreground almost black and the one in the background a little blue. A third mountain can be seen beyond this one, grayish in colour. The setting sun sheds its glow on the mountain range, giving the picture it's unique lighting.

Nature Scenes from Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania, Africa

Dar-es-Salaam is not the capital of Tanzania, but it is certainly the most beautiful city in the country. Residential areas like those in the Msasani Peninsula are breathtakingly beautiful. The photographs below have been shot from the Oyster Bay area, part of the peninsula. Some of them can be used for header images.

The photo below shows the road leading to Oyster Bay. You can see the houses at the far end of the road.

A glimpse of the sea.

This is the view of the beach from one of the residential complexes in Oyster Bay.

These are the sparkling clear blue waters of Tanzania.
