Thieves beware signs from the UK

This one is a funny sign, seen in the small city of Bangor in Wales. The sign offers a free ride in a police car to shoplifters.

This signs which tells thieves to beware as plainclothes police are operating in the area was seen near Buckingham Palace in London.

This sign is a bit of a mystery. Looks like the London police will take away bicycles on certain days in certain areas!

Silhouettes of the London Skyline

This is a black and white silhouette of a skyline which is representative of London city. The Tower Bridge in the background and the river Thames in the foreground. This bridge is often mistakenly called the London Bridge.

This is a silhouette of an ordinary street scene in London but some typical London sights are silhouetted against the sky. The London Eye can be seen silhouetted in the background and in the foreground there is traffic and buildings, a typical London telephone booth and a double decker bus.

London Eye Sketches, Silhouettes and Illustrations

These are sketches, silhouettes and illustrations of the modern monument in London in the United Kingdom - the London Eye. The landmark structure gives you a bird-eye view of London from all directions for around 40 kms and it's quite fun actually. This Ferris wheel is on the banks of the River Thames and almost 500 feet high. It's the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, and gives a panoramic view of London as it spins in slow motion.

The large ferris wheel has many capsules which carry people and the first sketch is a close-up of one such capsule and each capsule weighs 10 tonnes and can accommodate at least 20 people. The total number of capsules are 32, elegantly designed.

This is the sketch of the actual giant wheel with the capsules perched on it. A hit with tourists.

Queen's Guard photo, sketch and silhouette

This is a photograph of a Buckingham Palace guard or Queen's Guard, who is one of four at Buckingham Palace, the royal residence. At regular intervals there is a change of guard and this ceremony is a sight for tourists.

Tower of London Photograph, Sketch and Silhouette

These are pictures of the Tower of London, an ancient Tudor castle on the River Thames. It is a tourist spot. This castle of the Tudors was built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror. This castle is seen as something evil or bad and a place of death, because it was was an ancient prison. Originally however this was built as a grand palace, and was a residence of the royals. In the16th and 17th centuries certain prominent figures were imprisoned here. , when many figures who had fallen into disgrace, such as Elizabeth I before she became queen, were held within its walls. People have been executed here as well.

Victoria Memorial Fountain outside Buckingham Palace in London

The Victoria Memorial in London was built in 1911 is also called the Buckingham Palace Fountain but it is actually a memorial to Queen Victoria, an English queen. It is located in the centre of the Queen’s Gardens in front of Buckingham Palace. The area is a bustling tourist spot today. The memorial is built out of marble and is over 8o feet high.

Buckingham Palace Panoramic View

These are wide angle views of Buckingham Palace in London, England. Buckingham Palace is the seat of British Royalty, where the British monarch lives. In these pictures you can see tourists milling around the palace.
The first photograph is taken from the point of view of a single male tourist to the left of the picture and gives a view of the whole facade of the building. Three images were stitched into one to get this picture. As many as four gates of the structure are visible in the photo.

Bangor in Wales

Bangor is small city in Wales, Great Britain. It is one of the smallest cities in Britain. It is basically a university city and almost fifty percent of the population speak Welsh. The place is small and quite beautiful and quiet, as these photographs show. A quaint little town with one high street and lots of pubs. There is a relaxed atmosphere in the town, and the place is thronging with students.

This photograph is the main square of the city. It's got a clock tower and the shopping malls are concentrated around this area.

This photograph is of the main high street in Bangor, Wales. There are no cars here, mostly walkers. In any case one can easily walk from one end of the city to another!

Bangor is a hilly place and it can get pretty tiring to walk if one does decide to! Lots of steep slopes!

There is little traffic and the traffic that is there is very organised. Before crossing you have to press a button and then the cars stop for you. The writing on the signal is in Welsh. In fact you cannot understand the language at all. There is no resemblance to English. The accent of the local Welsh people is also very different.  They consider English a foreign language and the English people as foreigners, not locals.

London train station, platform and trains

Here are some photographs of St Pancras station in London from where the Eurostar leaves for Paris. There are pictures of trains, passengers and platforms as well.

The first picture is of a waiting area at the Pancras station. Passengers are standing around waiting for their trains.

This is a platform with a train where passengers have disembarked. They are walking with their luggage to the exit.

Here are two sleek looking red and yellow trains. A few passengers with luggage are waiting to board the train.

This is the inside of the Eurostar. Passengers can be seen inside the compartment of the train. Inside these trains it is very comfortable and spacious, and usually not crowded.

This is the worst seat you can get in the Eurostar as there is no view. Sad for  tourists as they take a train from London to Paris to do some sight-seeing on the way.

London Eye

This popular tourist attraction in now a famous London landmark - a Ferris wheel on the banks of the River Thames and almost 500 feet high. It's the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, and gives a panoramic view of London as the wheel slowly spins. It goes in slow  motion and you can see for around 40 kms from the top. section.There are 32 sealed and air-conditioned ovoidal passenger capsules which carry passengers. You can freely walk around to see the changing view. Special requirements for the disabled are taken care of.

Here is one of the capsules of the London Eye. It carries a fair number of people and they can either stand or sit. Each capsule weighs 10 tonnes.

Most of the view from the London Eye is through the transparent windows of the capsule, but this picture was taken from the other side, the side which faces the wheel.
