Unique painting at the Louvre

This may not be one of the most famous paintings at the Louvre but it is something of a trick painting. As you pass it you will find the man in the red robe coming out of a doorway and waving in your direction. However as you pass this same painting something else happens which you will see in the next photograph. The painting seems to be about a war with the man waving to soldiers.

This is the same painting but after you have passed it. The man seems to have turned his face towards you! Interesting how the painter managed to do something clever like this! In the painting you can see more clearly the figures which are kneeling on the ground and in distress.

Eiffel Tower sketches and silhouettes

Here some sketches and silhouettes of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which is a landmark of the city of Paris. These images are based on photographs taken by me.
This sketch shows the Eiffel, an iconic monument of Paris, from the front, with tourists all around.

Unusual street sights from Paris

Here are some unique sights I saw in Paris. They were very unusual to my tourist's eyes. This first photograph has a heap or mountain of shoes and the sign says "Handicap International." People were throwing their old shoes into the pile and it was the weirdest sight I have ever seen. Couldn't quite get the significance of it.

This scene was of a various placards for human rights and world peace being shown on the streets of Paris. What was interesting is that the demonstrators were protesting about almost everything, different kind of injustices from around the world, from concentration camps, to human rights abuses in Sri Lanka, to the war in Iraq.

This is just a street scene from Paris, but the pink limousine caught my eye. It may be very common in Paris, but it seemed quite unusual to me, a pink limo!

The streets of Paris in pictures

These are photographs taken on the streets of Paris and there are a few photos of the canals. They capture the atmosphere of the city. Paris leaves a unique imprint in the minds of tourists.
This photograph is of a street near a canal (which connects to the river Seine)  where street painters sell their wares. A row of small shops line the pavement next to the canal and they sell curious and paintings. These are the older districts of Paris and tourists frequent these places.

This is a close-up of the canal St Martin in Paris. A few people can be seen walking on the road next to the canal.

Here is a bunch of tourists crowded onto a boat on the canal. This is one way of seeing Paris. The boat is packed with people and just going under one of the numerous bridges across the canal.

Paris as a city is not as clean as one expects it to be, although it is cleaner than Rome. Here is a shot taken from atop a tourist bus and shows a couple walking down a deserted Paris street. Litter can be seen on the side of the road. To the left of the image is part of the tourist bus from which this photograph was taken.

This is a typical Paris scene. A street cafe at the corner. People seem to spend hours sitting here, doing nothing.

These last two photographs have been lifted off a video which I took at a Paris Square. These are are stills from the video. To improve the image quality the sky was made smoother. The area is a commercial district.

Here are some pictures of the exterior of the Eiffel Tower, one of them a close-up, some standard pictures, and two images shot at night.

This one is a worm's eye view of the Eiffel Tower and the blue sky as the background.

This image is an even better worm's eye view. This is a shot of the Eiffel Tower from underneath it. You can see the metal girders from up close. A light blue sky makes up the background.

This photograph is a standard view of the Eiffel Tower, from up front. Tourists can be seen around the base of the tower. Some buildings of Paris can be glimpsed in the background.

This image is shot during dusk. Although the Eiffel Tower is not looking like a silhouette, it is almost one due to the camera facing a very bright sun. People at the base of the tower are silhouetted against the blue sky background. This picture is interesting because the sun is exactly above the Eiffel Tower, it's rays spreading out giving the Eiffel an aura.

The night pictures were shot on a cell phone camera. The background is a dark blue sky and the Eiffel Tower is lit up with yellow and green lights.

This image has been given an effect to reduce its blurriness. The background is black.

Here are a few photographs of the outside and inside of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The most famous museum in the world. There are some photos of the statues of the Centaur and Diana, as well as the background of the tiled marble corridors.

The first photograph is a view of the museum from the outside, with the glass and metal pyramid centred against the background of the building of the Louvre.

This is a closer view of the iconic glass and metal pyramid of the Louvre.

This is an image of the lobby of the Louvre, with a lot of people congregated here. They have to decide which section of the Louvre Museum they need to visit. The lobby is in the centre of the museum.

This is the Kentauros and Eros statue, showing Eros the God of Love riding on the Centaur. This is a Roman marble copy of the Greek original.

This is the statue of Diana of Versailles at the Louvre Museum. She was the goddess of the Hunt. It is a Roman artwork of the Imperial Era (1st-2nd centuries CE).

This is an image of a corridor at the Louvre with paintings hung on both sides and a few sculptures.

This picture is shot from a small courtyard in the Louvre museum building. The glass roof of the museum covers the courtyard.

This is the exterior of Lido at Champs Elysees, in Paris. This is where some exotic shows with girls who wear elaborate costumes, with feathers and sequins.

Birds Eye View of Paris from the Eiffel Tower

These are two aerial photographs of Paris shot from atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

The first picture is a panoramic view of Paris. The curve of the horizon is visible.

The image below depicts the river Seine and the adjoining area of its banks. The curve of the horizon is visible in this representation as well.

The sight below, part of the Trocadéro Garden, was captured from another point on the Eiffel Tower.

Mona Lisa Painting

This is a photograph of the painting of Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci which is at present at the Louvre. They did not allow us to use the flash and it was difficult to get clarity with the digital camera I had.

Painter at the Louvre, Paris

This is a photograph of an artist copying a painting at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The photograph shows the artist painting on a wooden easel on a trolley. He seems to be a serious artist, although we never asked him what he planned to do with the painting, whether it was for personal use or whether this was his job: copying the originals and selling them.

Venus de Milo at the Louvre in Paris

These photographs are of the ancient Greek statue of Aphrodite (the Romans knew her as Venus). She is the Greek goddess of love and beauty. It is a large marble statue which is now seen at the Louvre Museum in Paris. It was discovered by a Frenchman in the ruins of an ancient city (Milos) in Greece and transported to France.

The first picture is the side view.

The second image is shot from the front, but not directly. 

Like most ancient statues this statue too was once painted and adorned. Venus or Aphrodite had jewellery too but over the ages the paint has been worn off and the jewellery lost. 

The third image is taken directly from the front of the sculpture.
This work of art is believed to have been sculpted between 130 and 100 BC, and thought to be made by Alexandros of Antioch.
