Beetroots photographs

These are photos of beets or beetroots in an Indian market. A bunch of these may not look so red on the outside but inside they are blood red. Beetroot powder is a great safe way to color food. Nutritious vegetable mostly used in salads.

Onions being transported

A three-wheeler cycle cart transporting onions to the vegetable market.  This photograph captures the essence of India quite well. It shows the poverty of the labour, the thin wiry built of the man speaking for itself. The cart is too heavy for him to cycle so he has got off from the seat and is walking. The dusty roads are typical in most villages and towns.  In background you can see tin shacks and political posters. Smiling and grinning faces of politicians plastered across cities and towns are a main feature of any poverty ridden country!

Vegetable Vendors

Photos and close-ups of vegetable vendors. Here is a vendor fast asleep! He selling pumpkins and also the large brown skinned root vegetables commonly consumed in India. Not sure what they are called. Perhaps this shop doubles up as a home, because a level higher one can glimpse a woman sleeping. A picture of a god is also seen in the background.

Vegetable Markets in India

These are pictures of a vegetable market in India. A vegetable market like this is usually at the outskirts of a shopping area or near a railway station or just on a busy street. The scenes are typical of any Indian vegetable market.

Here is a vegetable vendor sorting out his wares, leafy green coriander. In the background some shops can be seen.

This is inside the vegetable market. Peas are in season and the market is flooded with them. Customers are buying peas from the vendors in the market.

This photograph shows vegetables displayed for sale.

The photograph below is of a street vegetable market. Saleswomen are sitting on the road with their vegetable wares spread out. Flowers are also being sold here. The pavement of this road is completely block with the fruit and vegetable "market."

Frozen Peas

These are photographs of frozen peas pouring out of a plastic pouch. The brand is not visible in any of the pictures.

The ice caking the peas is visible and so are the individual peas. The peas on the side of the pack are part of the image the manufacturer has used. Only the peas actually shown coming out of the packet are real peas.

The background in these pictures is black, although these are not cut-outs.

Indian Thali - typical Indian vegetarian meal

These two images are of a typical Indian vegetarian meal. It has most of the items in a typical Indian meal. There is kadhi, which is made of gram flour and buttermilk, dal which is made of lentils, as well as several types of vegetables. The white coloured dish is dahi wada which is a fried lentil crouton in curd, chopped tomato and cucumber salad, roasted papad and rotis. One of the vegetable dishes comprises of a paneer (cottage cheese which is popular in Indian vegetarian meals) and green peas curry. Green chutney and a slice of lemon is provided as an accompaniment. Rice is usually served separately. Buttermilk is usually given as an additional dish.
