This small narrow gauge toy train connects Neral and Matheran, a tourist resort near Mumbai and Pune. The line was open to traffic by 1907.The journey is a picturesque one over parts of the Western Ghats near Karjat and Mumbai. This railway line was financed by Sir Adamjee Peerbhoy of the Adamjee Group and the consulting engineer was Everard Calthrop.
